What Is Involved in the Teeth Whitening Procedure?
Very often it will be recommended that you have your teeth cleaned to remove topical stain that has formed on your teeth.
On teeth whitening day, your dental provider will prepare your mouth by protecting all soft oral tissues leaving only teeth exposed.
The whitening gel is applied and the Zoom light is used to help the gel dissolve stains. Generally, most patients will undergo three fifteen minute sessions during this one appointment where gel is reapplied and exposed to the Zoom light for a total of forty-five minutes.
The final step involves the application of a paste or gel designed to help reduce sensitivity since that can be bothersome for some patients. Your dentist may also recommend using a toothpaste geared toward relieving sensitivity.
If you anticipate any other cosmetic work, it is best to have teeth whitened first so that additional treatment can be matched to your newly lightened shade. Porcelain does not respond to whitening.
