When you have an overactive gag reflex, high anxiety levels, or other issues that make treatment difficult for you, then we can help with dental sedation. Our calming medications can help you enter a calm and relaxed state, so you can receive the treatment you need to enjoy optimal oral health and an attractive smile. Our Dallas, TX holistic dental office provides multiple calming medications!
When You Need A Calming Solution
As we touched on above, this could help patients with concerns that impact how they receive treatment. If you have special needs or an overactive gag reflex, this can help keep you feeling calm and relaxed. The same goes for patients with anxiety levels, which could impact receiving even minor treatments like dental cleanings. We could also recommend this for patients undergoing more extensive treatments, such as tooth extraction or dental implant placement.
How We Choose an Option for You
We have two different options to choose from, but how do we choose them? We will take several factors into account, such as age, weight, medical history, anxiety levels, and any medications you are currently taking. Our team has experience in administering these calming solutions, and a trained anesthesiologist is always on hand throughout the process. We want your experience to be a positive one, so you can receive the care you need and also attend future visits without hesitation!
Nitrous Oxide and Oral Conscious
Nitrous oxide is a very mild and common option for helping anxious patients of all ages. We will administer the sedation through a mask over your nose. As you breathe in this gas, you enter a state of calm and euphoria. You remain conscious and able to respond to the dentist, but will likely have no memory of the procedure. The effects can be adjusted during treatment as needed, and wear off once the treatment ends. In fact, you could potentially drive yourself home or return to work or school.
We also have an option if you require a more substantial form of calming. With oral conscious, you will take the medication in a pill or liquid form prior to the procedure. This will help you enter a deep state of calm, with little to no memory of the procedure. You again remain conscious however. The effects take time to wear off, so be sure someone is ready to take you home afterward.
