The Process of Receiving a Dental Crown
The first step to receiving a crown is your consultation. At your appointment, our team will determine if a dental crown meets your needs. This first appointment is a great opportunity to discuss your budget and which materials you prefer for your crown. Many patients want a natural aesthetic and choose porcelain or porcelain fused to metal.
Once a decision has a been made, the tooth is prepared for a crown. This will involve gently removing any decay or damaged areas. To ensure that you enjoy comfortable treatment, local anesthetics are administered before this process. Having your tooth prepared for a crown is an important step because your restoration will ultimately be placed over your biological tooth.
With traditional crown placement, X-rays, digital photographs, and impressions of your tooth are taken after the tooth is prepared. This will help determine the exact specifications necessary to produce a crown that perfectly accommodates your unique oral anatomy.
This information is then sent to a laboratory where technicians will fabricate it from your chosen material(s) and you will return for its placement once the crown’s fabrication is complete.
Same-Day Dental Crowns
For those who want to bypass the traditional process of waiting for a crown’s fabrication, our practice offers same-day crowns. We utilize an advanced technology called “CEREC”, which can mill a crown onsite from high-quality ceramic. This process takes about an hour and patients can enjoy their crown the same day as their tooth is prepared. CEREC dental crowns are very lifelike and strong enough to withstand the daily forces associated with oral function.
