Sedation Dentistry Helps Provide Care With Comfort

dallas sedation

When you have anxiety, we don’t want to minimize your discomfort or ignore your fears. Instead, we want to offer a way to enjoy a comfortable and relaxed visit, and we do so with sedation dentistry. Our Dallas, TX holistic dental office provides multiple sedation options, so even those with severe anxiety can enjoy their time in the office!

The Reasons We Offer Sedation

Dental sedation is a great way to keep our patients comfortable when they are undergoing more involved procedures, such as tooth extraction or dental implant placement. If you have special needs or an overactive gag reflex, this can make even minor procedures a difficult process, but we can help with calming medications. Dental phobias are very real but with our calming options we can help you remain relaxed and comfortable, often with no memory of the procedure at all afterward. We offer this to help everyone enjoy their time in the office, so the dental experience is positive!

Assessing the Right Option for You

We have three different sedation options, so we have to choose which one is right for you. To do so, we will look at a number of different factors. For example, we look at your age, weight, medical history, and assess any medications you are currently taking. These help us select the safest option for you. A trained anesthesiologist is also on hand during your treatment, and will monitor your heart rate and more during the procedure.

Nitrous Oxide

Also known as laughing gas, this is a mild option that is safe for kids and adults alike. The medication is administered in a gas form through a mask over your nose. You breathe in the gas and enter a deep state of calm, with little memory of the procedure, while also staying conscious. We can adjust the levels during the procedure, and the effects wear off once the procedure ends, so you can drive yourself home or return to work or school.

Oral Conscious

You still remain conscious, but enter a deeper state of calm and little to no memory of the procedure. This is taken in pill or liquid form prior to the procedure, and the effects take time to wear off, so you need someone to take you home.

IV

Administered intravenously, this is the deepest form of calming available! Again, the effects take time to wear off, so someone needs to be ready to bring you home.
