04 Jun How Do I Care for My Invisalign Aligners?
Invisalign dental aligners allow for a patient to enjoy a straighter, more aesthetically pleasing smile without the need for brackets and wires, as is the case with traditional orthodontic treatment. Invisalign treatment involves the patient wearing a series of specially created, clear dental aligners that target and slowly move specific teeth over a period of time, to achieve a desired look.
Invisalign carries several benefits; they are almost invisible to see once worn, hence the name, meaning that the wearer needn’t further compromise their smile’s appearance with unsightly brackets and wires. The aligners used in the treatment are removable, and so the patient can continue to eat the foods they love without fear of damage to the treatment apparatus. Teeth can be cleaned as normal, using a regular toothpaste and dental floss.
And Invisalign is easy to care for, too. The aligners require no special care to ensure treatment progresses as planned by the dentist. Aligners can be easily cleaned using a soft brush and paste to remove any accumulations of food particles or film that may have collected around the surface. What’s more, as each aligner is only worn for a period of around two weeks, should any staining or discoloration occur around the surface, then the effect is only temporary until the next aligner in the series is used and the current one discarded.
Invisalign treatment involves the use of a series of aligners, with each one targeting and moving specific teeth towards their correct position over a period of time before it is discarded and the next one in the sequence becomes active. Each aligner is designed by the dentist to ensure that teeth continue to progress towards the correct and desired result, and is worn by the patient for most of their day, being removed only to eat and to clean the teeth.
Occasional visits to the dentist are required, to monitor and ensure that the movement of the teeth is progressing according to plan. These visits also enable the dentist to easier check for signs of dental problems, which can often be masked by traditional braces and so is more difficult to detect.
At the end of the treatment, the reward will be a dazzling, attractive smile that not only looks good, but also provides added practicality to the patient’s bite through proper tooth alignment.
