25 Sep CEREC Dental Crowns FAQs
Did you know it’s possible to have custom made dental crowns placed in one day? Our dentist uses CAD/CAM technology to fabricate beautiful dental crowns at our practice. Instead of waiting weeks for a lab to create a custom restoration, a patient’s crown can be milled onsite from our office. This makes receiving a dental crown very convenient for our patients.
Following are answers to common questions about CEREC crowns.
What does a CEREC crown look like?
A CEREC crown looks like a biological tooth. This is because these restorations are milled from high-quality blocks of ceramic. Available in numerous white shades, ceramic is a wonderful material for producing discreet dental work that blends in beautifully with neighboring teeth. Ceramic mimics more than the appearance of teeth, it also feels similar to the texture of natural tooth structure, making it a lifelike alternative to unsightly metal restorations.
How is it possible to produce a custom crown in one day?
CEREC dental crowns can be made in one day because of CAD/CAM technology. This technology helps our dentist determine the exact specifications for a patient’s restoration so that it fits perfectly over a damaged or diseased tooth. The crown is then milled right from our office.
The process of making CEREC eliminates the need for a dental laboratory where custom restorations are traditionally made. In fact, the entire process for placing CEREC crowns takes under two hours.
Will I need a temporary crown?
The traditional process for fabricating dental crowns requires the need for a temporary one. This is because there are weeks of wait time between the initial appointment that involves reducing tooth structure for a crown, and the second appointment, which places the custom restoration. Since CEREC crowns are placed the same day a patient’s tooth is prepared for a restoration, temporary crowns are not necessary.
Our practice embraces technology to enhance patient care and make dental treatment more convenient. If it’s time for a checkup or cleaning, call Kozlow & Rowell Dentistry to set up an appointment.
