09 Dec How Often Do Kids Need To See Us?
When should you bring your child in to see the dentist? How often do they need to visit us for checkups and cleanings? Regular care from the dentist is important for kids of all ages, and we can help! Our Dallas, TX holistic dental office wants to help your kids enjoy their best smiles!
The First Visit
The first visit should happen at around age one. This is a wellness visit and very rarely will it require any treatment. Instead, we will conduct a knee-to-knee lap exam to make sure baby teeth are erupting as they should. We will then schedule the next visit. Seeing the dentist routinely at a young age can help kids better understand the importance of routine visits, and also helps instill good oral health habits. Your children are also less likely to have dental anxiety, and more likely to continue seeing the dentist and caring for their smiles as adults.
Checkups and Cleanings
Beginning at around age two, kids will see the dentist for a checkup and cleaning about once every six months. These visits enable us to watch the smile as it grows and develops, so we can identify possible concerns in the earliest stages, protecting kids from concerns like tooth decay, gingivitis, premature tooth loss, and misalignment. In the same visit, we will conduct a dental cleaning. The cleaning process only takes a few minutes, but it completely removes all plaque and tartar buildup from the surfaces of the teeth, which helps fight bad breath, teeth stains, cavities, and even gingivitis. We can also talk to your kids about proper brushing and flossing habits at home too.
Metal-Free Fillings
What if we do discover a cavity during the dental exam portion? If this happens, then our team will place a filling. We don’t use amalgam or other metals, as we prefer a holistic approach to dental care for our patients. With composite resin, we have a metal-free option that we can shade to blend with the smile and offer a more lifelike appearance. This material is also biocompatible and bonds with your tooth. If you have any questions about our approach to children’s dentistry, or if you want to schedule a visit for your little one, then reach out today. Now is a great time to set up a visit, as you can use your remaining 2024 dental benefits before they expire!
