How Sedation Keeps Our Patients Comfortable

dallas sedationWe know that for some, dental anxiety can stand between them and the healthy smile they deserve! So, to help people with anxiety and other factors that make undergoing care difficult, we offer dental sedation options. Our Dallas, TX holistic dental office provides calming selections like nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation to ensure a positive experience!

The Reasons to Recommend a Calming Solution

As we mentioned above, this can be very helpful to patients with dental anxiety, as a fear of the dentist can make receiving even minor procedures a difficult process. We never want to minimize your discomfort, but we want to offer solutions to make receiving care possible and comfortable. In addition, this can be helpful for patients with special needs or factors like an overactive gag reflex that make treatment uncomfortable. Our team can also provide this for people undergoing more extensive treatments, such as tooth extraction or even dental implant placement.

Selecting the Right Choice for You

We have two different options to choose from, and will select one for you based on a number of different factors. For example, we will take any medications you are currently taking into account, as well as your medical history, age, weight, and anxiety levels or special needs. We want to ensure a positive experience for our patients and their families, so they don’t dread a visit to the dentist.

Nitrous Oxide

A very mild and widespread form of sedation, this is helpful for patients of all ages, from kids to adults. The sedation is given in gas form, inhaled through a mask over your nose. You breathe in the gas and enter a state of calm and euphoria, with little to no memory of the procedure, despite being conscious throughout the procedure. The effects can be adjusted during treatment as needed, and wear off once the treatment ends. Which means you can drive yourself home, or even return to work or school, no lingering effects!

Oral Conscious

Oral conscious sedation also means you remain conscious, despite this being a deeper form of relaxation. You will likely have no memory of the procedure, and the medication is given in a pill or liquid form prior to the procedure. You enter a very deep state of calm, and the effects take time to wear off. You may be a bit groggy and require a ride from a friend or a family member.
